The Marjot Foundation Names Dr. Ginny Edgcomb, Mr. Michael Garfield, Jr., and Mr. Benjamin Morris to its Board of Trustees

Falmouth, Mass. - The Marjot Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ginny Edgcomb, Mr. Mike Garfield, Jr., and Mr. Benjamin Morris to the Board of Trustees.   When asked to join, Dr. Edgcomb, a tenured Associate Scientist in the Geology and Geophysics Department at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, said: “ Nothing is closer to my heart than to help high school students pursue independent science investigation!”  Mr. Garfield, an executive recruiter for asset managers, has been extremely active in the Bow, NH, school system, working with high school students in the Destination Imagination program.  Mr. Morris, Management Consultant for Alpha FMC, will help guide the financial future of Marjot, becoming a member of the Investment Committee.  

Dr. Judith McDowell, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, made the announcement of the new trustees at the recent Board meeting.  Dr. McDowell said that Marjot was extremely fortunate that these talented people will serve on the Board.

Marjot is committed to finding new and creative ways to promote environmental research at the high school level.  High school students develop research proposals that are then reviewed by the Marjot Science Advisory Board.  Since 1998 over 100 high schools students have benefitted from awards from the Marjot Foundation, including eight students from Falmouth: Lian Folger, Oliver Newman, Vincent Lin, Sam Cox, Owen Silitch, Sarah Sherwood, Lily Myette, and most recently, Charles Xu.  Charles is a junior at Falmouth High School. With his current Marjot support he is studying the impact of carbon dioxide fluctuation on calcareous phytoplankton, coccolithophores.
